The excellence of Corteforte Amarone awarded in Canada

Our Amarone Amarone XXX anni in due secoli (30 years in two centuries) 2013 and Riserva 2011 obtained the gold medal in the competition Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada, one of the most esteemed international wine competitions in the world and the largest in North America. The 2020 edition was held under the patronage of the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and of VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits competitions). The 27th edition of the competition has been held with great success in Quebec City from November 18 to 22, 2020 in accordance with the health protocol imposed by government authorities. More than 2,160 registered wines from 33 countries took part in this 2020 edition. This represents an increase of 38% and an exceptional international representation. This impressive increase in the participation of winemakers demonstrates the desire to gain recognition in the Quebec and Canadian markets, as the country is the 7th largest wine importer in the world by volume, a volume that keeps on increasing. Among the trends worth mentioning for this edition, we note that 55% of the participating products are red wines. Also, 22% of the wines presented can be categorized as coming from sustainable

The goal is to rationalize agronomic techniques, in particular as regards fertilization, the use of water and the defense against diseases in order to respect the environment as much as possible. 5StarWines – our Amarone’s certificates

5StarWines - The Book 2021 in its print version is out and Vinitaly sent us the certificates of our winning Amarone wines. We are really proud of the awards, which see our Reserve 2011, 4th overall wine and Amarone with the best score, 96 points, and the only winery with three awarded Amaroni. Here are the impressions of the jury, (published in the guide in English): Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva 2011 - 96 points Deep dark ruby color. Intense nose of tobacco, dried herbs, sweet dried fruits, and black chocolate. The soft palate shows licorice and complex leathery notes. Velvety tannins and very long finish. Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Voxius 2014 - 93 points A wine with a complex nose which combines sweet fresh black and red fruit, marmalade and sweet spices, notes of leather, earth, chocolate and tobacco. Powerful structure with plenty of acidity, good balance with supple tannins. A mouthwatering red. • Corteforte’s harvest 2020

    Corteforte’s harvest 2020

The 2020 harvest is over and the best bunches of our native varieties, Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta and Molinara have been manually selected and placed in crates for drying at the "R. Ferrarini" drying rooms in Fumane. Thanks to the favorable weather conditions, which lasted until the end of September with high temperatures, the quality of the grapes appears good and since the hilly portion of Valpolicella Classica was not affected by the hail of 23 August nor by the storms of 28 and 31 August, there are prerequisites for high quality wines, ideal for a long aging. Our Osan and Bertarole vineyards are hilly, the ideal area for growing Veronese pergola and obtaining superior quality fruits, necessary for the production of our Amaroni, Ripasso and Recioto. It is possible that the vintage is favorable to the production of Amaroni Riserva in Limited Edition but the many passages and the times of fermentation and aging (several years) move forward a decision of the oenologist in this sense, even if we hope strongly . For example, the conditions for making Corteforte Dea Lualda amarone occurred only for the harvests of 2006 and 2013! While waiting for the new wines, we are always ready to welcome

Annuario dei Migliori Vini d’Italia 2021 – Luca Maroni

We are truly honoured by the scores attributed to our Amaroni and our Valpolicella Ripasso Podere Bertarole by Luca Maroni in the 2021 edition, fresh off the press, of his Yearbook of the Best Wines of Italy. His "final comment" on Corteforte fills us with pride (English translation doesn't compare with the poetry of his Italian original): "The Amarone developed by Corteforte are splendid. True prodigies of the grape nature, technically transformed with great clarity into such majestic wines. Valpolicella Ripasso Podere Bertarole 2018 is also balsamic, with Amarone Vigneti di Osan 2012 which reveals persistence of spiced currant of endless ardor. Summarizing concentration that makes the vanilla cassis of Terre di San Zeno 2013 Amarone Classico a fruit licor with essential aroma power. The best is Amarone Dea Lualda 2013: not only amazing in concentration, but soft and with a still vivid fruit in its clear spicy mantle of aroma. Compliments".

  • Amarone and Concentus, the new vintages

Amarone and Concentus, the new vintages

Here we are with the new wines, we have just bottled last week and the fresh temperature in Valpolicella did surely help us! We bottled Concentus IGT Rosso Veronese (please note that the name changed and this red wine will not be anymore called Rosso delle Venezie). After an aging period of 10 months in French oak barrels, the wine expresses elegance and finesse. Velvety and round, it is very well balanced, between the fruitness and acidity of Corvina grape and the power and complexity of Sangiovese. Surely ageworthy. We bottled also Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Terre di San Zeno 2008. After 24 months of small oak French barrels and some months in steel tanks. 2008 vintage is absolutely great. The summer was regular without being too hot and the Autumn even better: dry, warm and sunny. The following drying period was correct. We started pressing a bit before than usual, on the 22nd of December. It exhibits the traditional Amarone character and flavor profile: rich, ample and complex, but versatile and very drinkable! It will be ready for November 2014. In the meantime, enjoy Summer!
